Jump in and get muddy. Give back and get set. Scouts ignore the butterflies and go for it, and soon so will you.

News & Blogs

Our next District Welcome meeting will be held on Sunday 4th May at WF15 Scout Hut in Truro Drive, Kidderminster. I know this is corny but it has to be said - May the fourth be with you!

Start time will be 10 am and should take no longer than an hour. Scouters new to the District will receive an invitation by email from me just after Easter with full details. Please make every effort to attend.

These meetings are held every six weeks or so. The next one after 4th May will be Tuesday 27th May and that will be held at Rhydd from 7pm to 8pm.

New Scouters are reminded that attendance at these meetings is part of the Getting Started programme and forms an integral part of joining.  By holding the meetings on different days with different times we hope to cater for all new members. Group Lead Volunteers should explain this during their own welcome package.

Just a reminder with the summer term coming up that we have a laser tag set available for hire (£50 for a session) which is great for use at Rhydd for your section nights. Also we have 10 GPS trackers available for £10 per tracker for an event which show position on full OS Maps, ideal for adding an extra level of safety to remotely supervised expeditions.

I had the absolute pleasure of being able to watch the young people of Wyre Forest perform in the first Gangshow since 2017.

Mark Atkinson was keen to get this idea off the ground with a very youth led approach. We had Explorers write and direct the show while others Stage managed and looked after the fantastic sound and light systems. They also choreographed the routines and oversaw the costume department.

We had a campfire that needed energy form performance to light after a slightly irresponsible Scout Leader made it rain with his singing, there was pillow people, synchronised swimming and even Agadoo made it in, I did get slightly concerned when they burst in to Charlie was a Pigeon! Fortunately that was soon halted. The Beavers and Squirrels added to the show with an exceptional rendition of Alice the Camel, the Beavers took to the stage for The Grand Old Duke and the squirrels did a great job of My Baby Bumblebee. Of course, no Gangshow would be complete with out a rousing finale performance of crest of a wave.

I am thankful to Mark and the leaders for facilitating the show but I know they will all agree that it was very much the Young Peoples production and they did themselves proud!

Well done to you all.
